You can't NOT communicate!
Take a few seconds to re-read the title for this blog, you will soon realise that we are all communicating all of the time. Even if our mouths are not moving! Difficult to believe I know, but it is true. :-)
You would have heard of body language and non-verbal communication – the thing that happens, usually without much conscious thought, ahead of anything that projects from our mouths. It takes a lot of conscious effort to hide what are natural reactions to our surroundings.
I hear, “She had a real poker face – I couldn’t tell her intentions”
“He looked angry from the start, I knew this wouldn’t be easy”
Sometimes our own processing of what we see will rely on our set of values, experiences and understanding of that situation. We can then, of course, sometimes get it wrong.
An easy test for you…. Next time you are feeling happy about something or something good has just happened, go for a walk perhaps around your local area and observe what is happening - a little “people watching”
Likewise, the next time something has annoyed you, repeat the exercise.
What do you notice? If you are pre-disposed to the “happy” feeling you will see this in others, you will notice people smiling or generally content. Likewise if you’re angry, you will see this in others too.
The purpose of this blog is to give you more awareness of how sometimes our feelings and emotions can project onto others and our perceptions can be manipulated just by how our day is going….
Worth a thought!
